Claire’s Life: Bomb at Balmain’s Fall 2019 Show During Paris Fashion Week!

Happy Friday, Bombers and Bombshells!
I just touched down for the tail end of Paris Fashion Week, and my trip has already been action packed!

Two days ago, I found out that I was confirmed for the Balmain show. As many of you know, Balmain is one of my favorite brands, so I hopped on a United flight that would get me to Paris the morning of the show!

I landed at 8am and knew I would only have a couple of hours to get ready for the show, which was slated to begin at 11:30am show. I waited and waited at baggage claim for an hour…only to discover my bag hadn’t made the flight with me! And of course, in my excitement, I had forgotten the cardinal rule of travel: pack your first few days of outfits in a carry on in case anything happens (as it tends to do with me)! At any rate, I knew I had to make it to the show, so I just filled out a claims form and made my way into Paris. I got a quick beat from Parisian makeup artist @ElitaCosmetics, took off my airport ready liquid leggings and flats, switched into the one pair of heels I put into my carry on (nude heels by Salone Monet), then headed to Espace Champeret.

The show was located in a cavernous space, illuminated by blue flood lights which offset the glossy white/gray floors. I took a moment to take it all in: my first Balmain show! In Paris! As soon as I sat down in my front row seat, I forgot all about my jet lag and lost luggage, and took a moment to take in the atmosphere. Editors, buyers and socialites streamed in wearing Balmain logoe’d separates and sparkly boots. Not only was I happy I made it there–on time–but also thankful to be in the building. It was a momma, I made it! moment.

Now on to the clothes. The reason I love Balmain is because it aptly encompasses my style: classic with a kick. Balmain signature leather jackets, capes, and pants were enlivened with shiny textures: think studs, spikes, crystals, and patent leather.

Models walked to an 80’s soundtrack and sported 80’s silhouettes to boot: strong shoulders, large decorations (bows on hips), and select slouchy ensembles that could have been pulled from Boy George’s Culture Club.

The collection married old and new, classic with contemporary for another outstanding show. At the end, Olivier Rousteing took a bow with his Balmain army: a bevy of beautiful women all dipped in shiny, sexy, threads.

After the show, I said ‘Hey’ to Lala, who rocked a Balmain mini dress with a new long hairstyle coiffed by Ray D aka @Hair4Kicks.

And I also showed loved to Shawn, a managing director at Balmain, who was kind enough to invite me as his guest.

What a day! But it was all worth it. And next time, I’ll wear Balmain at the Balmain show of course. But this go round, I rocked my airport outfit: A YSL leopard print coat from Saks Furs (shout out to Sandy Blye!), an Issey Miyake dress, and Salone Monet heels.

Day 1 in Paris was exciting to say that least, let’s see what Day 2 may hold…

Smootches!
